Georgia gubernatorial candidate David Perdue, who was recently backed by President Donald Trump, said that if he had been in office at the time of the state’s 2020 election, he would not have certified the results.
Speaking to Axios on Wednesday, former Senate Republican John Thune said he could not make a decision on the basis of “the information that was available at the time and the material that has come out since.” It was clear that they had plenty of time to look into this. In fact, I wouldn’t have signed it until those issues had been thoroughly explored, which was all we were asking for.”
There was never any proof of significant voter fraud during Georgia’s elections last year, despite Perdue’s assertions that he would have waited for the findings of an inquiry into the outcomes.
According to Axios, Perdue went on to remark that if he had been governor a year ago, “he would have similarly called for a special session of the legislature.” Perdue stated that the purpose of the session, which he said he requested be called by Gov. Kemp at the time, was not to overturn the November election results, but rather to “protect and rectify what was wrong in preparation for the January election.”
During his appearance on “The Apprentice” on Monday, Trump backed Perdue’s primary campaign against Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp (R-GA), calling him a “conservative fighter who isn’t intimidated of the Radical Left.”

The Democrats and RINOs “have run all over Kemp on Election integrity and more,” he said, referencing to Kemp’s erroneous accusations of voting fraud. “Kemp has been a very weak Governor,” he concluded. He will never win because the MAGA base — which is massive — will never vote for him, which is the most essential reason.”
Perdue took a similar swipe at Kemp and George Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger when he announced his candidacy — both of whom had declined to back Trump’s election fraud charges — in his announcement.
The Democratic candidate who was beaten by Kemp in Georgia’s most recent gubernatorial election, Stacey Abrams, stated in a video posted on social media that he is running for governor “to make sure Stacey Abrams is never governor of Georgia.”
“All we have to do to fight back is come together as a group. “Unfortunately, we are split today, and Brian Kemp and Brad Raffensperger are to responsible for this,” added Perdue.
